Subject: [SDL] Compiling SDL 1.2.8 with the free Borland compiler

When compiling SDL 1.2.8 with the free Borland compiler, I received this
error (there is a similar error that occurs in
src\video\windx5\sdl_dx5events.c):
Error E2342 ..\..\src\video\windib\sdl_dibevents.c 189: Type mismatch in
parameter 'lpPrevWndFunc' (wanted 'int (__stdcall *)()', got 'long
(__stdcall *)(void *,unsigned int,unsigned int,long)') in function
DIB_HandleMessage

I checked the MSDN library at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/winui/winui/
windowsuserinterface/windowing/windowprocedures/windowprocedurereference/wind
owprocedurefunctions/callwindowproc.asp

and it had this to say:
If STRICT is not defined, the lpPrevWndFunc parameter has the data type
FARPROC. The FARPROC type is declared as follows:

int (FAR WINAPI * FARPROC) ()

In C, the FARPROC declaration indicates a callback function that has an
unspecified parameter list. In C++, however, the empty parameter list in
the declaration indicates that a function has no parameters. This subtle
distinction can break careless code. Following is one way to handle this
situation:

#ifdef STRICT
   WNDPROC MyWindowProcedure
#else
   FARPROC MyWindowProcedure
#endif
...
   lResult = CallWindowProc(MyWindowProcedure, ...)

                         Simple DirectMedia Layer

                                  (SDL)

                                Version 1.2

---
http://www.libsdl.org/

This is the Simple DirectMedia Layer, a general API that provides low
level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL,
and 2D framebuffer across multiple platforms.

SDL is written in C, but works with C++ natively, and has bindings to
several other languages, including Ada, C#, Eiffel, Java, Lua, ML,
Objective C, Perl, PHP, Pike, Python, and Ruby.

The current version supports Linux, Windows, BeOS, MacOS, MacOS X,
FreeBSD, OpenBSD, BSD/OS, Solaris, IRIX, and QNX. The code contains
support for Windows CE, AmigaOS, Dreamcast, Atari, NetBSD, AIX, OSF/Tru64,
RISC OS, SymbianOS, and OS/2, but these are not officially supported.

This library is distributed under GNU LGPL version 2, which can be
found in the file "COPYING". This license allows you to use SDL
freely in commercial programs as long as you link with the dynamic
library.

The best way to learn how to use SDL is to check out the header files in
the "include" subdirectory and the programs in the "test" subdirectory.
The header files and test programs are well commented and always up to date.
More documentation is available in HTML format in "./docs/index.html"

The test programs in the "test" subdirectory are in the public domain.

Frequently asked questions are answered online:
